I first went to Kenya in 1990 and fell in love with country and its people. I was struck by the vast amount of deforestation and its negative effects. I decided that I had some of the skills to address these issues.
Over the years I have established dozens of tree nurseries and a dozen educational permaculture gardens to teach the restorative effects of permaculture. Over the last few years I have set up several educational permaculture projects in schools to empower the children and local communities with organic food production and resource based projects that would create extra income for the schools. These include fish farming in lined ponds, greenhouses to grow higher valued
Over the years I have taken many interns with me to Kenya to incorporate them into our projects to give them first hand experience in the field.
I will be taking students from the fall course with me as I am establishing a permaculture centre that will teach teachers to travel across Kenya to further this work.
