Over the years we have been blessed by hundreds of wonderful people, young and old, who have shared time with us at Seven Ravens learning and practicing permaculture.

On Experience:

I had a great time working and learning at Seven Ravens. I came to the farm with an idea of what I would be learning and working on and came out knowing so much more. There was always something different to be done as Seven Ravens has such a diverse array of projects going on simultaneously. I can honestly say that the experience I had at Seven Ravens and with Michael, Heidi and the girls was life-changing and one of the best experiences I’ve had.

On Learning:

I learned that when you’re doing work that you love with people that make your life consistently positive you don’t feel like you’re working, you enjoy yourself.

Last Word:

I would say that if you are interested in a particular kind of work Seven Ravens does it’s the best place to go. Not only will you learn more about your initial interest you’ll learn so much more about numerous other things that you may not have been exposed to before.

On Experience:

My experience at Seven Ravens was wonderful. The property itself is idyllic, and it is a joy to spend time there. Everyone I interacted with on the farm was warm and friendly, and the work is always an enjoyable, varied, and rich learning experience. I’m extremely grateful for the time I got to spend with both Heidi and Michael.

On Learning:

I have in the past, and in the future would highly recommend Seven Ravens to anyone who is interested in WWOOFing on Salt Spring, especially if you want to stay a longer period of time. However, I would be very careful to inform anyone planning to go to Seven Ravens to let them know that it is not a place where you work typical WWOOFer hours. If you are going to Seven Ravens, expect to work MUCH harder than you would at any other WWOOF farm, but also expect in turn that the amount you learn from that experience to be far more than at any other WWOOF farm as well. Michael is a very hard working man and he expects the same from his interns and WWOOFers, but the work very rarely feels stressful, especially since Michael is always willing to take a few moments to ensure you fully understand what you are working on.

Last Word:

My experiences at Seven Ravens were extremely formative for me. I have no doubt that dropping out of a masters program to learn on the farm was a very wise decision! Based very much on my learning at Seven Ravens, I am now in the midst of pursuing an entrepreneurial career running a plant nursery and as a permaculture designer.

On Experience:

I learn best by doing which is what Michael is about. He is also a lot of fun to work with and to learn from! And the Seven Ravens land is simply mind-blowing! Woods big enough to explore, with an immense diversity of trees, plants and wildlife, ponds (you can swim in summer!), and a magical sauna building with wood stove to relax after a day of hardwork :)

On Learning:

When something needs to get done, do it right away.
Be positive no matter what: life is good!
And most importantly, trees are everything: they are what makes life possible!

Last Word:

Be proactive about what you want to know. A lot of things always need to be done and it is easy to get caught up into just wanting to get the job done. Stop and ask questions. They will always be answered.

On Experience:

My experience at Seven Ravens was both spiritual as well as transformational. Michael and his wife Heidi were gracious hosts, informed instructors and ultimately became friends. Their land is compassionate and kind, offering her healing to even a tumbleweed like myself. Salt Spring Island is like no other place in the world, full of beauty, in both the land and the people who steward it. Everyday you are able to interact on both the farm and in the community with people seriously interested in food security, animal husbandry and sustainable forest management.

On Learning:

I learn by doing. Michael is a Doer (with a capitol D). From the moment that you arrive on the farm you will be thrust into learning about a variety of permaculture and eco-forestry techniques that keep Seven Ravens producing terrific food and wood products. I had the great pleasure of both taking a formal permaculture workshop with Michael and working alongside him on farm projects. Both exceeded expectations. Michael is an eager and willing teacher. Someone who takes the time to really teach, answer questions and patiently guide you on your learning path.

Last Word:

If you are looking for a farm to learn and work on while adding value to a magical land, then Seven Ravens and Salt Spring Island is for you. Each day brings new learning, adventure and opportunity to embrace nature and her undying desire to provide abundance for any and all who steward her.
